My name is Sulamita Sorokina and my story echoes that of so many others in our Slavic community; I am from a large immigrant family of humble beginnings, with our faith at the center of it all. My parents and my five older siblings immigrated from a small village in Siberia to the United States in 1995. In total I have four wonderful sisters, and five hilarious brothers. There is nothing more valuable than my family and friends who bring so much color, chaos and comfort to my life.
The past four years, I have been given the opportunity to study both the Russian and Spanish language at Lewis and Clark College.
This opportunity has allowed me to embark on a journey to better understand my heritage and personal history, as well as it has deepened my appreciation for a culture and language that is completely foreign to me.
One of my passions is spending time in the incredibly sublime forests of the Pacific Northwest. We live in such a beautiful and lush climate, and I try my best to take advantage and truly appreciate God’s handiwork. It is a lifelong dream of mine, to complete a 2653-mile hike that stretches from the Mexican to the Canadian border. In addition to spending time outdoors, I enjoy gardening, reading, and cooking good food.
